Sam's story
Sam has always managed, through health challenges and caring for his wife. But last winter, everything became heavier. The bills kept piling up, and every letter through the door filled him with dread. Their flat’s steep stairs made daily life almost impossible.
At breaking point, Sam felt the silence grow with no one to turn to.
"I never enjoy Christmas. Nobody has been in contact to ask if we are OK… I keep reminding myself, it’s just one day. What a horrible situation, never ever did I think I would reach this point."
But Sam didn’t give up, instead he reached out. And because of generous community support, Aberdeen Cyrenians was there.
When Sam came to Aberdeen Cyrenians, he had almost given up.
"It got to a point I couldn’t see a way out, but Aberdeen Cyrenians saved my life… I just felt so alone."
Sam’s courage in seeking help meant our team could support him and his wife into safer accommodation, sort out finances, and manage energy costs. Most importantly, we were there: listening, encouraging, helping him rebuild with dignity and care.
"I know they are always here for me. If it wasn’t for them, I literally wouldn’t be here to tell my story."
Our community support means, Sam now has hope, connection, and a home that’s right for him and his wife.
