Homelessness in Aberdeen
Our vision is a society where everyone has a safe and stable place to call home.
A person experiences homelessness if they have no accommodation, or if it would not be reasonable for them to continue to stay in it.

What Homelessness Really Looks Like

The legal definition of homelessness includes people living in temporary, insecure or unsafe conditions. Many people in Aberdeen are not rough sleeping - they’re in hostels, B&Bs or sofa-surfing, with no real place to settle.
Scotland’s housing laws are strong on paper, but accessing housing rights is complex and often out of reach for those in crisis. Some groups face greater barriers, leading to unequal housing outcomes.
More than half of all applications to Aberdeen City Council from people assessed as homeless - or at risk of homelessness within two months - include at least one additional support need. These can range from mental health challenges and medical conditions to addiction, debt or a lack of essential life skills and social support.
