Each year, around 145 million cards are sold around Valentine's Day in the UK with almost all of these ending up in landfill.

And that’s just the cards — we spend billions annually on throwaway gifts, like balloons, flowers and teddy bears. In 2020 an average Briton spent almost £40 on Valentine’s Day.
